JUNKANOO

their beloved Junkanoo music please visit:
Along with Rake and Scrape and Goombay music, Junkanoo hails
from the Bahamas. Junkanoo is without a doubt the most popular
style of music you’ll hear in the Bahamas, because it’s been around
for hundreds of years and is a vital part of the heritage of the islands.

Some say the word is derived from the name of a freed slave, John
Canoe, but others insist that it comes from the word "junk"—the
discarded cans and materials used to create instruments for the first
Junkanoo celebrations in the 18th century. A Junkanoo "rush" is a
slow march accompanied by Junkanoo rhythms and percussion
instruments.
